| Credit Unions in Missouri are teaming up with Homes for Our Troops - a non-profit group started four years ago to help build specially adapted homes for severely injured members of the military returning from service in Afghanistan and Iraq. CFCU is proud to partner with Homes for Our Troops to assist the men and women who have so valiantly served and given so much for our country.
Specialist Scott West was severely injured in Iraq when an IED exploded under the Humvee he was driving. The IED was spotted at the last second, and Specialist West jerked the vehicle to the right, instep of the left, so that if it exploded it would happen on his side of the vehicle (protecting his fellow soldiers). It exploded directly under his seat. The explosion blew the Humvee about three feet in the air, landed on the side of a hill, and proceeded to go another 300 feet before coming to a stop. Scott lost both legs below the knee. A month after waking up at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Scott was already learning to walk with prosthetics. Today, Specialist West is back home in Branson - walking on prosthetics, engaged to be married and plans to enroll in college soon. Want to help? Make a donation at one of our offices or online. There may be some volunteer opportunities as well. Watch our website for updates.
